Para quem estava com medo de subir um Windows 2008 Server Core, pois todas as configurações devem ser feitas via linha de comando, uma boa alma caridosa (Guy Teverovsky) criou uma pequena interface gráfica apenas para fazer as primeiras configurações do Server Core, como ativação da licença, nome do computador, IP, etc.

Claro que para os IT Pros mais velhos, trabalhar na linha de comando não é problema, mas para quem não quer perder tempo procurando os comandos, esse pode ser um aplicativo interessante!

Pessoal, não tinha postado essa notícia antes pois a fonte que surgiu na internet não me pareceu muito confiável, e não temos notícias da própria Microsoft, apenas a fonte fala que pegou a informação de alguém dentro da Microsoft Corp, mas quando vi essa imagem eu dei muita risada.

A Microsoft parece que está querendo abrir algumas lojas, tipo a Apple Store, onde ela venderia produtos da própria marca Microsoft, mas ainda não é nada certo, não sabemos a localização, nem data, etc.

Like Apple's Genius Bar, Microsoft will staff its stores with experts to help customers with questions and problems. Obviously, any Microsoft store would be much more software based than an Apple store, which gets so much foot traffic due to it being a showroom as well as a mini internet café. I'm not sure what Microsoft has got to draw that many people in, but who knows, maybe they have an ace up their sleeve. We'll see.

O Windows, é claro. De acordo com o último relatório da Symantec, um whitepaper sobre Internet Security Threat Report, de mais de 100 páginas, mostra dois períodos, um entre Jan-Jun de 2007 e o outro de Jul-Dez 2007, e vejam que é a empresa mais rápida para lançar patches de sistemas operacionais:

Bom, não é novidade que a Microsoft tem que ter este número muito menor que os concorrentes, pois o seu sistema operacional é o mais utilizado no mundo (94,06% dos sistemas operacionais do mundo entre 2003 e 2008), portanto ela tem que mitigar esses riscos para os usuários finais. Mas a Apple tem muitos usuários e me parece que eles não tem essa visão, que o patch pode demorar meses para ficar disponível.

A Sun então é uma decepção, quantos servidores não utilizam este sistema operacional, alguns até de cara para internet.

Mais um anuncio de produtos de segurança da Microsoft, desta vez é o "Stirling", nome beta ainda, que será a próxima geração da suite Microsoft Forefront.

O Forefront Client Security já está em beta da v2.0, ou seja, mais uma evolução para dentro do Stirling. O Microsoft ISA Server também terá seu nome remodelado, a partir da próxima versão, como ele já entrou para a família do Forefront, ele vai se chamar Forefront Threat Management Gateway. Vamos ver, muita coisa boa para o futuro.

Pessoal, quem já tem acesso ao RC0 do Hyper-V, aqui vão algumas dicas de como fazer o upgrade para a nova verão.

Parent Partition:

O pacote será liberado para download via Windows Update ou Microsoft Download Center.
O pacote só será instalado em Windows Server 2008 RTM, ou seja, nada de verões beta. Após logar no seu Windows Server 2008 RTM, é só executar o pacote de instalação. Você pode executar o pacote antes ou depois de habilitar o Hyper-V no Server Manager.

Lembrando que o Hyper-V só pode ser instalado em Windows Server 2008 com a região configurada para English - US.

As configurações tem que ser todas recriadas, pois não existe migração da versão Beta para RC, porém os HD (que são importantes) você pode migrar.

Nota: Cuidado com os snapshots, elas tem que ser deletadas.

O upgrade do RC0 para as próximas versões, como RTM, será suportado.

Dear Members of the Board:

It has now been more than two months since we made our proposal to acquire Yahoo! at a 62% premium to its closing price on January 31, 2008, the day prior to our announcement. Our goal in making such a generous offer was to create the basis for a speedy and ultimately friendly transaction. Despite this, the pace of the last two months has been anything but speedy.

While there has been some limited interaction between management of our two companies, there has been no meaningful negotiation to conclude an agreement. We understand that you have been meeting to consider and assess your alternatives, including alternative transactions with others in the industry, but we’ve seen no indication that you have authorized Yahoo! management to negotiate with Microsoft. This is despite the fact that our proposal is the only alternative put forward that offers your shareholders full and fair value for their shares, gives every shareholder a vote on the future of the company, and enhances choice for content creators, advertisers, and consumers.

During these two months of inactivity, the Internet has continued to march on, while the public equity markets and overall economic conditions have weakened considerably, both in general and for other Internet-focused companies in particular. At the same time, public indicators suggest that Yahoo!’s search and page view shares have declined. Finally, you have adopted new plans at the company that have made any change of control more costly.

By any fair measure, the large premium we offered in January is even more significant today. We believe that the majority of your shareholders share this assessment, even after reviewing your public disclosures relating to your future prospects.

Given these developments, we believe now is the time for our respective companies to authorize teams to sit down and negotiate a definitive agreement on a combination of our companies that will deliver superior value to our respective shareholders, creating a more efficient and competitive company that will provide greater value and service to our customers. If we have not concluded an agreement within the next three weeks, we will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including the initiation of a proxy contest to elect an alternative slate of directors for the Yahoo! board. The substantial premium reflected in our initial proposal anticipated a friendly transaction with you. If we are forced to take an offer directly to your shareholders, that action will have an undesirable impact on the value of your company from our perspective which will be reflected in the terms of our proposal.

It is unfortunate that by choosing not to enter into substantive negotiations with us, you have failed to give due consideration to a transaction that has tremendous benefits for Yahoo!’s shareholders and employees. We think it is critically important not to let this window of opportunity pass.
