Managing system health and workloads
Review Internet & network traffic reporting
Manage updates
Deploy software to computers
Track deployment status of applications and updatres
Remotely assist users
Manage and create users
Install licensing
Manage CAL assignments
Remote Web Workplace
View extensibility plug-ins.
Agora é só testar a capacidade do EBS.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4264a0fe-c3af-44c9-868a-c5a2a6d12fd4&DisplayLang=en
17.4 MB
[]'s
Carlos A.
Source -> Blogs Technet

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-08-27T12:54:43Z</dcterms:modified>

pptPlex - Office Labs

Agora esse projeto do Office Labs me chamou atenção.

pptPlex is a plug-in that explores an alternate method for presenting a PowerPoint slide deck. Using pptPlex, you can present your slides as a tour through a zoomable canvas instead of a series of linear slides.
FAQ - get answers to frequently asked questions
Blog - read the latest news from the team
Discussions - connect with other users
Source -> Office Labs

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-08-19T00:51:12Z</dcterms:modified>

Windows Vista and SP1 focus on delivering greater performance and overall system responsiveness. By striking a balance between speed and responsiveness, Windows Vista and SP1 deliver a level of performance that has the greatest positive impact on the system’s usability. This guide looks at the following areas of performance improvement:

• Making configuration changes that help a computer feel more responsive when you use it.
• Using hardware to boost the actual physical speed of a computer.
• Making configuration changes that help a computer to start faster.
• Making the computer more reliable may help increase performance.
• Monitoring performance occasionally so that you can stop problems before they get too big.
Documento em PDF
Documento em XPS
[]'s
Carlos A.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-07-31T18:01:00Z</dcterms:modified>

Apresentação ->
Microsoft Learning -> http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/master/default.mspx
[]'s
Carlos A.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-07-31T14:25:57Z</dcterms:modified>

Microsoft is incubating a componentized non-Windows operating system known as Midori, which is being architected from the ground up to tackle challenges that Redmond has determined cannot be met by simply evolving its existing technology.
Midori is an offshoot of Microsoft Research’s Singularity operating system, the tools and libraries of which are completely managed code. Midori is designed to run directly on native hardware (x86, x64 and ARM), be hosted on the Windows Hyper-V hypervisor, or even be hosted by a Windows process.
One of Microsoft’s goals is to provide options for Midori applications to co-exist with and interoperate with existing Windows applications, as well as to provide a migration path.
Building Midori from the ground up to be connected underscores how much computing has changed since Microsoft’s engineers first designed Windows; there was no Internet as we understand it today, the PC was the user’s sole device and concurrency was a research topic.
Today, users move across multiple devices, consume and share resources remotely, and the applications that they use are a composite of local and remote components and services. To that end, Midori will focus on concurrency, both for distributed applications and local ones.
Source -> SDTimes

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-07-30T12:20:22Z</dcterms:modified>

The "Mojave Experiment"

The "Mojave Experiment"
[]'s
Carlos A.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-07-29T13:47:16Z</dcterms:modified>

Microsoft Surface Sphere

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d2feca6d-81d7-430a-9b2d-b070a5f6ae50&DisplayLang=en

The new features focus on configuration change management and enhanced troubleshooting designed to help you identify and resolve ISA Server configuration issues within the ISA Server Management console.

The service pack includes the following new features and feature improvements:

• Configuration Change Tracking—Registers all configuration changes applied to ISA Server to help you assess issues that may occur as a result of these changes.
• Test Button—Tests the consistency of a Web publishing rule between the published server and ISA Server.
• Traffic Simulator—Simulates network traffic in accordance with specified request parameters, such as an internal user and the Web server, providing information about firewall policy rules evaluated for the request.
• Diagnostic Logging Viewer—Now integrated as a tab into the ISA Server Management console, this feature displays detailed events on packet progress and provides information about handling and rule matching.
Improvements for existing features, including:
• Support for integrated NLB mode in all three modes, including unicast, multicast, and multicast with Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP). Previously, ISA Server integrated NLB-supported unicast mode only.
• Support for use of server certificates containing multiple Subject Alternative Name (SAN) entries. Previously, ISA Server was able to use either only either the subject name (common name) of a server certificate, or the first entry in the SAN list.
• Support for Kerberos Constrained Delegation (KCD) cross-domain authentication. Credentials from users located in a different domain than the ISA Server, but in the same forest, can now be delegated to an internal published Web site by using KCD .
• Support for client certificate authentication in a workgroup deployment. This removes the requirement to map each client certificate to an Active Directory® directory user account.

E a Google?

  - Microsoft Presspass
- Channel 9 - MSDN
- Albuquerque Picture Re-Created - Atenção especial para a Microsoft "Mamma", a primeira secretária e ainda funcionária do Bill
- Interview- 'There's No Year That I Didn't Love My Job' - Newsweek - June 22, 2008
  - Microsoft Without Gates; Gates Without Microsoft - Fortune, June 20, 2008
- Exclusive- The Bill Gates Exit Interview - PC Magazine - June 23, 2008
- Ballmer Heads New Age of Microsoft Leaders - Seattle Post-Intelligencer, June 24, 2008
- Q&A- Bill Gates Unfiltered - Forbes.com, June 23, 2008
- Bill Gates Looks Into the Future of the PC - USA Today, June 25, 2008
- Video - From Boy Genius to Billionaire - Fortune - June 20, 2008
- Video - Gates- Different From You and Me - Fortune - June 20, 2008
  - Video Tribute- Looking Back, Moving Ahead (.wmv, 15 min 14 sec) - Microsoft Presspass

O download será disponibilizado hoje as 12:00PM PDT, no site do Hyper-V.

Hyper-V RC1 -> Hyper-V RTM Upgrades:

· Migration of saved-state files and snapshots are supported from RC1 to RTM.
· New Integration Components (ICs) must be installed for your supported guest operating systems. Integration Components are specific to the build of Hyper-V. RTM Integration Components for all supported Windows Operating Systems are provided using the ‘Action’ -> ‘Insert Integration Services Setup Disk’ action.
o RTM Integration Components for all supported Windows Operating Systems are now part of the IC Setup Disk. Since RC1, this now includes Windows Server 2008! Simply install the Hyper-V RTM Integration Components for Windows Server 2008 the same way you do all other Windows ICs (‘Action’ -> ‘Insert Integration Services Setup Disk’).

Note: You need to close the found new hardware wizard before setup will begin on all Windows Operating Systems.

The new architecture of synthetic devices with Hyper-V poses some unique challenges for system administrators. Specifically, how can a system administrator perform maintenance on a Hyper-V host from WinPE? Without the integration components, users are required to move their VHD's around to the IDE controller, which limits the amount of VHD's that can be used at any given point in time.
Additionally, legacy network adapters might need to be added to the VM to provide network access.
However, by adding the integration components to a WinPE image, those are no longer concerns.
For those of you not familiar with WinPE, here's a brief overview:
Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) is a minimal operating system designed to prepare a computer for Windows installation. It can be used to start a computer with no operating system (a bare-metal system), to partition and to format hard drives, and to copy disk images or to initiate Windows Setup from a network share. Windows PE is available as a stand-alone product to customers with the proper licensing agreement. It is an integrated component of many Windows Setup and recovery technologies, including Setup for Windows Vista and Windows Deployment Services (WDS).
Windows PE 2.1 is the latest release based on the Microsoft® Windows Vista® operating system.
Now, on to the steps:
1. Download and install the Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK). This allows you to create a custom WinPE image. The AIK can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=94bb6e34-d890-4932-81a5-5b50c657de08&DisplayLang=en
2. You need to extract two files from the c:\windows\system32\vmguest.iso file, which is part of Hyper-V RC1 (available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7EDAA89F-9F64-488D-93C0-858D2D8799DF). You will need to use a utility that allows the mounting of an ISO image. You can also mount the ISO image in a VM and extract the files as well.
You are looking for two files. Copy the file that is appropriate for your architecture:
32 Bit: \support\x86\Windows6.0-KB951633-x86.msu
64 Bit: \support\amd64\Windows6.0-KB951633-x64.msu
3. Create a directory on the same system you installed the AIK, and store the file(s) above there.
4. Open up the Windows PE User’s Guide. This was installed as part of the Windows AIK, and can be found (by default) by browsing to Start -> All Programs -> Windows OPK -> Documentation -> Windows PE User’s Guide.
5. Follow steps 1-4 under Customizing WinPE -> Windows PE Walkthroughs -> Walkthrough: Create a Custom WinPE Image.
6. After step 4 under Customizing WinPE (Optional: Add Additional Customizations), run the following script from your Windows PE Tools Command Prompt. Create a new batch file with the script below. Make sure that the MSUSOURCE is set to the directory where the files you copied in step 2 and 3 are, and that PESOURCE is set to the directory you created in Step 5.
%echo off
set MSUSOURCE=D:\synth\rc1\amd64
set PESOURCE=D:\winpe_x64_synthetic
mkdir %temp%\IC
c:\windows\system32\expand.exe -F:* %MSUSOURCE%\Windows6.0-KB951633-x64.msu %temp%\ic
mkdir %temp%\IC\binaries
c:\windows\system32\expand.exe -F:* %temp%\ic\Windows6.0-KB951633-x64.CAB %temp%\ic\binaries
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_wnetvsc.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_b331f76187e159c6\wnetvsc.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_ws3cap.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_f2dbb8abfcb9f757\ws3cap.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_wstorflt.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_1ca7ba32d0b2bd99\wstorflt.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_wstorvsc.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_835d97e82051b059\wstorvsc.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_wvmbus.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_95947137626ceb80\wvmbus.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_wvmbushid.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_4cc9f65464cd2f85\wvmbushid.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_wvmbusvideo.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_af4c3664979a87cd
\wvmbusvideo.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
"C:\Program Files\Windows OPK\Tools\PETools\peimg.exe" /inf=%temp%\IC\binaries\amd64_wvmic.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18010_none_5df58a6c04d20690\wvmic.inf %PESOURCE%\mount\Windows
Once the batch file completes, refer back to the Windows PE Users Guide, and finish following the steps from Step 5 onward.
After you create the ISO, attach it to a VM and power it on.

Source -> Bink.nu

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-03T22:57:27Z</dcterms:modified>

Windows 7 - Multi Touch

The performance report after this migration is very interesting:

Hyper-V CPU overhead (as measured by the parent partition utilization) was 5% to 6% with linear progression as the number of requests increased.
CPU oversubscription (three four-processor VMs on an eight-processor physical server) resulted in 3% lower overall performance per physical server based on overall requests per second per 1 percent CPU.
Requests per second per 1% CPU performance of MSDN over the previous physical server platform improved. This demonstrates to us the viability of efficient consolidation from dedicated older physical servers to shared virtualized platforms.
Physical MSDN handled 21% more requests per second per 1% CPU than virtualized MSDN.

Source -> Virtualization.info (via Bink.nu)

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-05-24T19:51:53Z</dcterms:modified>

Service Level Dashboard e MAP 3.1

Service Level Dashboard
IT departments need ever more sophisticated tools to monitor the performance of applications that make the organization run. These tools need to go beyond traditional server-based monitoring where server health equals service health.
The Service Level Dashboard for System Center Operations Manager 2007 is a new Solution Accelerator that addresses IT Service Managers' need to measure and report SLA compliance for line-of-business (LOB) applications. This new accelerator measures LOB performance from end to end by collating performance metrics from both the server side and select client locations. The accelerator provides an easy to read dashboard with performance status for the service through which the service manager can perform a data drill down.
Solution Accelerator Components
This accelerator ships the following software components:
- An Operations Manager 2007 Management Pack (SLD DAT, SLD report)
- A sample unsealed Management Pack targeted at monitoring a Web site
The accelerator provides the following guidance and examples of how to set up a SLA reporting solution, configure the distributed application template and create synthetic transactions for a line of business application in an OpsMgr Pack:
- Executive Overview on TechNet
- User's guide included in Beta
- Design guide - available at TRM
The Service Level Dashboard for Operations Manager works with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 and SQL Server Reporting Services.
MAP 3.1
As you may have known already, MAP has replaced WVHA since February 2008 and MAP now has all of WVHA's functionalities for Windows Vista Hardware Assessment and Office 2007, and more!
You can now use MAP tool to analyze readiness of your servers for a Windows Server 2008 upgrade as well as Server or Application Virtualization migration.
MAP 3.1 will include features such as Hyper-V modeling support and 64-bit installation support.
[]'s
Carlos Alberto

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-05-22T19:25:26Z</dcterms:modified>

Microsoft Deployment Toolkit - ZTI Video

Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool - Beta
The Solution Accelerators Communication and Collaboration group is pleased to announce the availability of the Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool for download on Connect.
The Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool provides a way to automate the process of updating virtual machines with the latest OS patches.
Solution Accelerator Components
The Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool is built on Windows Workflow Foundation and PowerShell. It works with Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007 to manage a library of offline VMs and with either Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 or Microsoft Windows Server Update Services.
The Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool consists of the following software components:
. A configuration user interface
. A .NET based workflow execution infrastructure
This Solution Accelerator is supplied with the following guidance:

Source -> Ars Technica

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-14T12:54:24Z</dcterms:modified>

Microsoft "Stirling" Beta - Download

Today at RSA Conference 2008, Microsoft Corp. announced the availability of the public beta release of its next-generation Microsoft Forefront security solution, currently code-named “Stirling.” Microsoft Forefront “Stirling” is an integrated security system that is designed to deliver comprehensive, coordinated protection, making it easy to control, access and manage security capabilities across an organization’s IT infrastructure.
Customers can begin evaluating Forefront “Stirling” today by downloading it from http://www.microsoft.com/stirling or by getting a copy at Microsoft’s booth at RSA Conference 2008. Forefront “Stirling” is scheduled for release to market in the first half of 2009.
Forefront “Stirling” includes a central management console for security configuration and enterprise-wide visibility, combined with the next-generation Forefront products that span the client, server and network edge. They include Forefront Client Security, Forefront Security for Exchange Server, Forefront Security for SharePoint and the next generation of Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA Server), Forefront Threat Management Gateway.
Source -> Microsoft PressPass

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-09T22:09:49Z</dcterms:modified>

Carlos A.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-07T13:57:34Z</dcterms:modified>

Leiam:
Microsoft Sends Letter to Yahoo! Board of Directors

Dear Members of the Board:
It has now been more than two months since we made our proposal to acquire Yahoo! at a 62% premium to its closing price on January 31, 2008, the day prior to our announcement. Our goal in making such a generous offer was to create the basis for a speedy and ultimately friendly transaction. Despite this, the pace of the last two months has been anything but speedy.
While there has been some limited interaction between management of our two companies, there has been no meaningful negotiation to conclude an agreement. We understand that you have been meeting to consider and assess your alternatives, including alternative transactions with others in the industry, but we’ve seen no indication that you have authorized Yahoo! management to negotiate with Microsoft. This is despite the fact that our proposal is the only alternative put forward that offers your shareholders full and fair value for their shares, gives every shareholder a vote on the future of the company, and enhances choice for content creators, advertisers, and consumers.
During these two months of inactivity, the Internet has continued to march on, while the public equity markets and overall economic conditions have weakened considerably, both in general and for other Internet-focused companies in particular. At the same time, public indicators suggest that Yahoo!’s search and page view shares have declined. Finally, you have adopted new plans at the company that have made any change of control more costly.
By any fair measure, the large premium we offered in January is even more significant today. We believe that the majority of your shareholders share this assessment, even after reviewing your public disclosures relating to your future prospects.
Given these developments, we believe now is the time for our respective companies to authorize teams to sit down and negotiate a definitive agreement on a combination of our companies that will deliver superior value to our respective shareholders, creating a more efficient and competitive company that will provide greater value and service to our customers. If we have not concluded an agreement within the next three weeks, we will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including the initiation of a proxy contest to elect an alternative slate of directors for the Yahoo! board. The substantial premium reflected in our initial proposal anticipated a friendly transaction with you. If we are forced to take an offer directly to your shareholders, that action will have an undesirable impact on the value of your company from our perspective which will be reflected in the terms of our proposal.
It is unfortunate that by choosing not to enter into substantive negotiations with us, you have failed to give due consideration to a transaction that has tremendous benefits for Yahoo!’s shareholders and employees. We think it is critically important not to let this window of opportunity pass.
Sincerely,
Steven A. Ballmer
Chief Executive Office
Microsoft Corp.
Source -> Microsoft Press

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-07T13:05:03Z</dcterms:modified>

Novas screenshots do Windows 7 Build 6519

Suporte para Windows Server 2003 x86 2-way SMP

Tradução parcial para Japonês e Alemão

Alguns bugs arrumados:

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/mar08/03-19RCHyperVPR.mspx

Antigen Email Server Security:

Antigen Collaboration Server Security:

Mas qual a diferença do Antigen for Exchange:

- Scan na pilha STMP e realtime no Information Store
- 9 scan engines, incluindo Microsoft, CA, Norman, Sophos, AhnLab, Kaspersky, Authentium e VirusBlaster
- Suporta Cluster, mantendo tanto o nó ativo quanto passivo atualizados
